BISWANATH: Local people roughed up four people who were accused of stealing goats from the villagers using a private passenger vehicle. People also damaged a vehicle that the four accused were travelling in.

According to local people of the Borjarani village located on the Assam - Arunachal Pradesh border have been facing problems regarding the stealing of domestic goats for a long time. Goats tied up for grazing were stolen and even those kept in the brans were not safe from these thieves. They had raised complaints with the local Tinisuti Police Station but to no avail.

But this time some of the villagers of the Borjarani village saw them catch a goat and put it inside their vehicle. Out of anger, the villagers then stopped the vehicle and roughed up the four accused, They also damaged the Hyundai vehicle bearing registration number AS 02 T 3945. The accused tried to flee but were apprehended by the locals. They handed over the accused to the police officials at the Tinisuti Police Station.

They were able to recover two goats from the vehicle. The identity of the accused was revealed as Sunti Ali, Anowar, Babu and Nurul belonging to the Siraijonia village of Sootea.

Previously a horrible accident involving the car they were riding in left at least two persons dead and five more with life-threatening injuries took place in Biswanath, Assam. A cargo van with the license plate AS25-EC-6149 was travelling from the Morigaon district to a weekly market in Biswanath while hauling fresh automobiles. The speeding goods vehicle lost control and overturned on the Biswanath bypass as it was travelling to the weekly market, according to sources.

Muzahidul Islam, one of the passengers, passed away immediately as a result of the accident, while the other passengers were taken to a hospital in Tezpur for more advanced care. Later, a critically ill fellow occupant passed away while receiving care.
